Exciting things are happening at Strawberry I at HeatherRidge!
Exciting things are happening at Strawberry I at HeatherRidge! As we approach the hot summer months, it important to look ahead at our water usage and what we can do to reduce overall consumption. It seems that given the shortage of snowfall again this year, we may experience continued drought all across Colorado. Save the date! At our annual meeting April 16, 2013, we will discuss what steps the HOA is taking to ensure there will be plenty of water for our current needs and those well into the future.
Strawberry is collaborating with the City of Aurora Water Conservation Division and the professionals at CAP Management to retrofit our fixtures and landscaping so we can save countless gallons of water and greatly reduce the amount of money spent on the utility. The first step will be to audit the fixtures in each unit to identify any potential leaks. Soon after, new high-technology water saving toilets, showerheads and faucet aerators will be installed to provide instant savings.
In addition to the indoor component of this project, we will also be xeriscaping much of the property. This means replacing ever-thirsty grasses with plants that are able to retain a healthy, attractive appearance even during times of extended hot and dry weather. The new landscaping will consume far less water than what is currently seen. In addition, there will also be a great new community garden to compliment the improvements!
With all of the great advancements in sustainability set to roll out this year, we will certainly be the envy of the other HOAs around town. Perhaps we will inspire them to take on water conservation measures as well. That would definitely make our communities more resilient to any effects of climate change Colorado may experience in the years ahead. To schedule your indoor water audit, please contact CAP Management’s Alex Bergeron at AlexB@capmanagement.com. He will work with you to find a time slot that works best.
Please feel free to ask any questions on this topic at the annual meeting. Representatives from the Aurora water department will be present to address any questions or concerns.
